Have a view at which games were bought by the Club during the Essen Fair.

Essen 2023 is now over and a lot of new games were presented.

The club has sent his best emissaries to the fair. They came back exhausted but with those wonderful games : 

– 50 Clues Sunshine Island Trilogy : No Sign of Life, Down in the Depths and The Last Journey : An immersive puzzle game that offers the experience of an escape room, but in a format that can be played at home. You combine objects, solve puzzles and decipher codes to complete the story. A smartphone or tablet keeps track of the solutions and provides multistep hints if the need arises.

– The A.R.T. Project : You are part of the Art Rescue Team, with the aim of fighting against “The White Hand”, an organization responsible for many thefts of priceless works across the planet. Your team of specialists, the best in their field, will travel from Japan to Rio de Janeiro via Scandinavia in order to recover stolen works of art. Will you manage to gather, together, enough clues in the allotted time to stop this cultural looting?

– After Us : A deck-building and resource management game featuring an original and intuitive combo system in which players are each leading a tribe of apes. Starting only with tamarins, they combine their cards each turn to collect resources and gather victory points, attracting new apes into their tribe along the way: powerful gorillas, resourceful orangutans, versatile chimpanzees, and wise mandrills. The first player to obtain 80 points prevails in the race to collective intelligence.

– Ancient Knowledge : A strategic card game in which you erect monuments and build artefacts to pass on your knowledge. Time will make your constructions ephemeral, so make the right decision and combine the many cards at your disposal, because all knowledge is doomed to disappear…

– Cosmoctopus : An engine-building, tentacle-gathering board game. Guide Cosmoctopus through the Inky Realm, a flexible configuration of tiles, to gather resources and obtain powerful cards that represent relics, scripture, hallucinations and constellations. Harness the power of these bizarre objects and experiences, craft potent card combinations and be the first to gain 8 tentacles to win!

– Doggerland : Embody a clan around 15,000 BCE, and expand it in order to leave a trace of its existence for centuries to come.

– Drop Drive : Gather your crew and prepare to explore the vast reaches of infinite space! Your newly installed rocket drive will aid in mining valuable resources from nearby asteroids, while your experimental drop drive will let you jump to distant and unknown depths of space. Orbit strange worlds to sell your cargo, pick up passengers, and collect alien specimens, all while battling unscrupulous pirates hell-bent on profiting off your tireless efforts……it’s time to drop into infinite space!

– Evacuation : Life on our planet is being burned away thanks to increasingly intense sunlight, so everyone is trying to move all the people and factories in their territories from the “old” planet to a new one — and they have only four rounds in which to do so.

– Hegemony : An asymmetric politico-economic card-driven board game that puts you in the role of one of the socio-economic groups in a fictional state: The Working Class, the Middle Class, the Capitalist Class and the State itself.

– Isle of Trains : A card-based engine building game where cards have multiple uses: You can use cards as locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars, or buildings to improve the effectiveness and abilities of your train. Cards can also be spent to pay for the construction of your new train cars and buildings, or you can use your cards as cargo and load them onto available freight cars.

– Karak II : Each player becomes a hero, trying to defeat monsters and their leader, the Dark General. However, to achieve that, they will have to collect resources, build and develop their cities and train new units (represented by dice) to add to their army.

– Rats of Wistar : Play the role of one of the four rats who organized the escape from the famous Wistar Institute. As such, you will have to lead your family to prove that you are the most deserving of leading the entire colony. Thanks to your extraordinary skills, you will be able to explore the Farm until you reach the pantry to be able to grab the appetizing cheese; exploiting the artifacts abandoned by humans at the edge of the Wood, you will create new inventions and expand your lair under the trees, digging new rooms and building new beds. You will meet native rats and mice that you will welcome into your family, and when necessary, you will visit the Alchemist mouse to gain some extra advantage.

– Shipyard : We’re in 19th century, sea transport is more and more important. Both corporations and naval forces require newer and newer ships. Try to put yourself in the role of their manufacturers. Hire employees, buy accessories, get favour of evaluating committees. Don’t forget to rent a canal and you can heave anchor. Clearly a game to get in exchange of your second copy of Evacuation!

– The White Castle : Euro type game with mechanics of resource management, worker placement and dice placement to carry out actions. During the game, over three rounds, players will send members of their clan to tend the gardens, defend the castle or progress up the social ladder of the nobility. At the end of the match, these will award players victory points in a variety of ways.

– Zhanguo : Go along with the Emperor’s plans to offer your family a place in the terracotta army. To help you in this challenging task, six cards will be at your disposal every round. They will give you permanent support during the rest of the game or will obtain the Emperor’s approval for your actions.

For our family section :

– 5 Towers : Compete as master architects to acquire cards and use them to build the highest towers. You’ll get cards if you are willing to take more than everyone else. But since you can only build one tower of each of the 5 types, taking too many cards at once can limit your options in the long run.

– Balloon Pop : Make groups of balloons that are all of the same colour or all have a symbol. When a group is scored, all of its balloons pop and your remaining balloons float upward to take their place and form new groups to score. But be careful! You must balance choosing the perfect balloon set with having flexibility in placing it. Combine your scoring cleverly to clear the rows and columns of your player board, and float to victory!

For our kid section :

– Dodo : By using teamwork, you can bring the rolling egg safely to the foot of the mountain! Quickly roll the building material you need, collect hammers and nails, and attach bridges to the sides of the mountain. If you manage to steer the egg safely into the lifeboat, you’ve won together.
